SANTIAGO CITY HOST HALAL AWARENESS SEMINAR FOR TOURISM MONTH CELEBRATION
In celebration of Tourism Month this September, the city promotes ethical and cultural practices for the Muslim community through various activities, including the "Santiago's Halal Awareness for Promoting Ethical and Cultural Tourism (SHAPE CT)" seminar. The event, held on September 21, 2024, was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in collaboration with the Local Government of Santiago.
The seminar aimed to support the sustainability of local tourism products and services by educating participants about Halal practices. This knowledge helps businesses in the food and tourism sectors better cater to the Muslim community while respecting their cultural and religious practices.
Key participants included representatives from the Our Lady of La Salette Multi-Purpose Cooperative (OLLSMPC), with Gema A. Aggalot, PIC Chairperson, and coop staff members Riza Mae Balunsat and Neiline Joy Cardenas actively engaging in the discussions.
"This seminar is an eye-opener for us in the food and tourism industry," said Ma'am Gema A. Aggalot. "It broadens our understanding of Halal principles and guides us in adopting practices that make our products and services more inclusive."
Ms. Ragel Dameg-Tacazon, the resource speaker, provided valuable insights into the importance of Halal awareness in tourism. She emphasized how adopting these practices can enhance Santiago City's appeal to Muslim tourists and contribute to the local economy.
The one-day seminar is part of Santiago City's ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and culturally sensitive tourism industry. The event concluded with a call to action for businesses to integrate Halal-friendly practices into their operations, ensuring that Santiago City remains a welcoming destination for tourists.
